10.3 Inspection
Check each push handle for evidence of bending.
Check each push handle for evidence of cracking through nutsert holes.
Check handgrip is secure.
Check for free movement of the plunger. Lubricate with light oil.
Check that the plunger locates in the hole on the side frame.
Ensure nyloc nut still grips thread.
10.4 Push Handle Removal
Using pliers loosen the backrest release knob, remove two No. 10 UNF countersunk screws
retaining the upholstery to the push handle.
Remove the 1/4 inch UNF nut and withdraw the bolt.
Lift the push handle clear from the wheelchair frame and remove the backrest release knob and
the plunger.
Lift the push handle clear by pulling through the backrest upholstery.
10.5 Push Handle Fitting
Insert the push handle into the backrest upholstery.
Hold the plunger in position and fit the backrest release knob ensuring that thread locking
compound is applied.
Replace the 1/4 inch UNF nut and bolt and tighten the nyloc nut until the push handle pivots freely.
Replace the two No. 10 UNF countersunk screws retaining the upholstery to the push handle.
10.6 Handgrip Fitting
1-Clean all residue from the handle and ensure the handle is clean using detergent if
necessary and dry off
2- When dry apply a bead of Superglue (Permabond C4) around the circumference of the
handle about 25mm from the end.
3- Quickly push the handgrip (RJ part no. M208) onto the handle using a twisting motion
to spread the adhesive.
4- Wait 5 minutes and check that the handgrip cannot be removed by hand.
